Instant Receipts Pty Ltd
Instant Receipts is a receipt scanning and bookkeeping app. We're based in Melbourne and we make it for Australian sole traders, tradies, freelancers and contractors. Accounting and bookkeeping firms use it too, to collect and review their clients' records.
Why we built it
A lot of sole traders do their books the week the BAS is due. They work from a pile of faded receipts and a bank statement. It isn't hard work but it takes hours, and every receipt that went missing is money you could have claimed.
We built Instant Receipts to spread that job across the year. You take a photo when you buy something and the app reads and files it. When the payment shows up from your bank, the two get matched. When BAS time comes around the numbers are already sitting there.
It is made for Australia. That means 10% GST, ATO expense categories, BAS labels and the TPAR file, and records kept for the five years the ATO asks for.
Who's behind it
Talha Qamar
Founder, Instant Receipts
Talha is the founder and full-stack engineer behind Instant Receipts. He has more than ten years of software engineering experience across banking, payroll, salary packaging and logistics, including senior mobile engineering roles at Teletrac Navman and 13cabs (A2B). At Instant Receipts he applies that background in financial systems to receipt tracking, expense management and BAS reporting for Australian businesses.
What the app does
Receipts and invoices
Photograph a receipt or upload a PDF and the app records the supplier, date, amount, GST and line items, then files it under an ATO category.
Free receipt app for tax →Bank feeds
Connect your bank account through Open Banking. Your transactions come in and get matched to the receipts and invoices you've added.
How auto-matching works →Tax reports

How we handle your data
Open Banking, not screen scraping
Bank connections run under the Consumer Data Right. Instant Receipts Pty Ltd acts as a CDR Representative of Fiskil, an accredited data recipient. You never give us your banking password.
You stay in control
You decide what gets shared and who can see it. You can pull a bank consent, remove your accountant or delete your account whenever you want.
Web, iPhone and Android
One account works in your browser and in the iPhone and Android apps. Scan a receipt on the job and it's there when you get back to your desk.
